We’ve recently teamed up with Baggett Elementary School to support a project that’s making a real difference for their students, and we couldn’t be prouder of the role we’re playing.
Baggett Elementary received the GOLD grant (Georgia Outdoor Learning Demonstration) in the Spring of 2023, opening the door to a truly unique learning experience for their students. Through the Small Fry to Go Program, the school became the first in Gwinnett County Public Schools to give kids a hands-on opportunity to care for 2000 small fry trout in their very own rainbow trout hatchery. Under the watchful eye of Ms. Sapp, students from kindergarten to fifth grade have been learning valuable lessons about water quality, ecosystems, and the environment—all while nurturing these tiny creatures.
But with any project this special, there are challenges. One of the biggest has been keeping the trout safe from bad weather and predators. When we heard about this need, we knew we had to help. That’s why we decided to fund the materials needed to build a permanent cover for the trout hatchery, ensuring the safety of the trout and the continuation of this incredible program.
What makes this even more special is that it’s a collaborative effort. We’re working alongside Maxwell High School of Technology, where students will bring this design to life. It’s a true community project, with everyone pitching in to make sure Baggett Elementary students can continue to benefit from this unique learning opportunity.
